REGARDING TRAIL CLOSURE 58
I've posted the pics below that were sent to me by the landowner of his property. Maybe we can shed some light or educate some people as to why the trail is temporarily closed.
There is a brook that floods the field after heavy rain. This happens pretty much every winter after a warm up. Some parts of the field have froze back up since but at the landowner's request and our club's discretion we've decided to temporarily close this section of trail until more snow. As a landowner and club, safety is our FIRST priority! Not only for the riders, but for the groomers as well. Landowners also want to protect their land and crops from damage, understandably so as it may be their livelihood. So, if a gates closed, there's a very good reason for it.
So, with that being said we had some riders this past weekend who took it upon themselves to ignore the closed gates and signs and ride onto the closed trail. When confronted by the landowner, he felt they were very disrespectful. The landowner is not happy to say the least.
Remember, we are guests on their land. They generously allow us to travel through their yards, crops, farms without expecting anything in return except respect of their land. The trail closure may be an inconvenience, but it is temporary and it is the landowner's right to do whatever they feel is prudent. We know the majority of snowmobilers are respectful and the landowner wants to continue to share his land, but will not tolerate blatant disregard of his property.
I hope this helps some riders understand why we decided to close the trail and to please think about the consequences of your actions. These clubs and landowners work hard all year to provide us with the safest and best trails possible. Let's keep them around to enjoy for many years to come. Thank you.
